Something that is unexplainable scientifically. Paranormal is a general term (coined around 1915–1920 that designates experiences that lie outside "the range of normal experience or scientific explanation" or that indicates phenomena that are understood to be outside of science's current ability to explain or measure. Paranormal phenomena are distinct from certain hypothetical entities, such as dark matter and dark energy, only insofar as paranormal phenomena are inconsistent with the world as already understood through empirical observation coupled with scientific methodology.
Parapsychology is a discipline that seeks to investigate the existence and causes and conditions of psychic abilities, near-death experiences, out-of-body experience, crisis apparitions, retro-cognitions, reincarnation memories, regression memories prophecy, ghosts and life after death. Parapsychological experiments have included the use of random number generators to test for evidence of precognition and psychokinesis with both human and animal (e.g. cat) subjects and Ganzfeld experiments to test for extrasensory perception.
A plane other than the physical plane is conceived as a subtle state of consciousness that transcends the known physical universe. The concept may be found in religious and esoteric teachings which propound the idea of a whole series of subtle planes, worlds, or dimensions which from a center, interpenetrate themselves and the physical planet in which we live, the solar systems, and all the physical structures of the universe. This interpenetration of planes culminates in the universe itself as a physical structured, dynamic and evolutive expression emanated through a series of steadily denser stages, becoming progressively more material and embodied.
Activity connected with poltergeists is that of unexplainable rapping's and other noises, also movement of items which are often thrown or smashed and in some cased fires have been known to start. This phenomenon is generally connected to teenagers particularly teenage girls. Poltergeists are generally believed to be centered around a single individual. Usually that individual has been experiencing some form of emotional stress or trauma prior to manifestation.
Postdiction (retroactive clairvoyance)
Postdiction, post-shadowing, retroactive clairvoyance, or prediction after the fact is an effect of hindsight bias that explains claimed predictions of significant events, such as plane crashes and natural disasters. In religious contexts it is frequently referred to by the Latin term vaticinium ex eventu, or foretelling after the event.
A medium can gain psychic information by holding a personal item such as a ring or watch once belonging to a deceased person.
